FROM SCHOOL GATE TO FINISH LINE

Ten sections, one downhill village high street. Here's how we're imagining it.

  1. START

    START GATE — PRIMARY SCHOOL

    Countdown and push start outside Stoke Fleming Primary School. Branding banners, race control, and the first roar of the crowd.

  2. 01

    OPEN STRAIGHT

    Build speed down the opening straight. Light spectator presence — racers find their line.

  3. 02

    CHICANE 1 — THE S-BEND

    Hay bales staggered across the road. Forces early control and rewards a clean line.

  4. 03

    ROLLING RAMPS

    Small bumps to keep things lively. Fun without losing safety.

  5. 04

    THE DROP — MAIN HILL DESCENT

    The fastest section of the course. Crowds line both sides for the headline moment.

  6. 05

    BIG LEFT BEND

    The natural bottom curve of School Road. Key marshal point — barriers tight, lines must be perfect.

  7. 06

    DRAGON TURN — THE GREEN DRAGON

    Tightened with barriers outside the pub. Main crowd zone, beer garden, music and the announcer. The beating heart of race day.

  8. 07

    SLALOM SECTION

    Three to five quick turns through cones or hay bales. Skill over speed.

  9. 08

    FINAL CHICANE

    A hard left-right to scrub speed before the line.

  10. FINISH

    FINISH LINE — CHURCH ROAD

    Just past the junction with a generous run-off zone. Timing gantry, photo finish, and well-earned cheers.

PROPER DOWNHILL

School Road gives a long, sustained descent. Real speed, not a token slope.

BUILT-IN BEND

The natural curve at the bottom becomes the course's signature corner.

PUB AT THE HEART

The Green Dragon sits perfectly mid-route — food, drink and the loudest crowd.

VILLAGE ATMOSPHERE

A proper South Devon high street, bunting end to end, the whole community out.

Safety first

NON-NEGOTIABLES

No event runs without these. Built into the plan from day one.

  • Hay bales along walls and danger points
  • Barriers on both sides of the course
  • Trained marshals every 20–30 metres
  • Full road closure for race hours
  • Clearly controlled spectator zones
  • Generous run-off past the finish line
  • Full motorbike-rated helmets must be worn at all times while in the cart
